Bristol City to sign £6 million rated Dwight Gayle?

News has broken this afternoon that Championship new boys Bristol City have had a bid in the region of £6 million accepted for Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle.

Sky Sports sources believe a deal is close on a deal which would smash Bristol City’s record transfer fee paid for a player, with reports also claiming the fee could rise as high as £8 million with add-ons.

It will come as no surprise that Gayle is on the verge of leaving Selhurst Park, as last week manager Alan Pardew admitted the club were willing to let the player leave if the price was right. The surprise is that no Premier League club have come in for him, and that he could be about to drop back down to the Championship.

Pardew said:

“There may be some players moved out but Dwight Gayle will not go anywhere unless his valuation is met.”

Gayle joined the Eagles from Peterborough United in the summer of 2013. In 24 starts for the club he has notched 18 goals, although primarily used as a sub. That hunger for first team football could be key to the 25-year-old trying to push through a move from Palace.

If he does move to Bristol City it would be quite a coup for the club, who lost their opening match of the Championship season 2-0 to Sheffield Wednesday.

The club face Luton Town away tonight in the first round of the Capital One cup, before hosting Brentford on Saturday in the league.
