Aguero in action for Argentina
Manchester City have made it clear that they have no intention to sell their star striker, Sergio Aguero, despite the forward having been left out of the starting line-up for the last two Premier League matches.
The Argentine had signed a new deal earlier in the season, which means he is under contact with the Blue side of Manchester for a further three years.
Aguero did come off the bench during his sides 2-1 victory over Swansea City on Sunday, and said he wanted to stay with the club.
“In these [next] three months I have to help the club and then they will decide if I have a place here or not.
“In three years my contract is up. That’s why I say I’m happy at the club.
“When you’re on the bench you have to wait for your opportunity. I have three months to do my best and try to help the team. Then we’ll see what happens with my future.”
New signing Gabriel Jesus’ blistering start to his city career has been the key to Aguero’s lack of game time in the last couple of matches. The Brazilian scored twice against Swansea, with the second coming late into the match to secure a dramatic three points. He had also scored in his side’s 4-0 victory over West Ham in their previous EPL game.
The importance of the 28-year-old is highlighted in the fact that he is City’s top scorer this season with 18 goals, 11 more than the second highest scorer, Raheem Sterling.
Aguero has also risen to become the third highest goalscorer in history for City, and will be keen to score the 24 goals needed to become the all-time top scorer for the club.
The good news for Aguero is that contrary to reports, City manager Pep Guardiola has been quoted stating that the player “remains one of the most important players in the squad”, and that he will go on to make many appearances between now and the end of the season.
Man City are chasing Premier League leaders Chelsea, and currently have a 10-point gap to close on the London side.
Sports bookmaker William Hill state that you can “view our full range of premier league betting” at their site, and they are currently offering odds of 10/1 for City to make up the difference on Chelsea and win the league.
With the form of Gabriel Jesus, and Sergio Aguero waiting in the sidelines to make his impact too, it might be worth a punt.
