Having seen Manchester City’s striking options in the lead up to the 2015/16 Premier League campaign, it’s safe to say they are once more reliant on the goals of Sergio Aguero – and even more than ever, as they look set to let Edin Dzeko leave the club.

City and Roma have agreed a £14 million fee for the Bosnian & Hercegovina international, with only personal terms between the Italian club and the player left to be agreed.

Having only signed a four-year contract with the club last summer, it may come as a surprise to some that he is now on the verge of leaving.

Manuel Pellegrini had said the player could leave the club after the signing of Raheem Sterling was announced at the back end of July:

“Edin didn’t play the last game as it’s not clear if he will continue here or not, but he is still working here with the whole squad.”

It could be a risky move to let the striker go, unless Pellegrini already has plans in place to bring in a new face in that position.

Stevan Jovetic has left to join Inter on a season-long loan, and the club have barely used Wilfried Bony since he signed in January.

So once again the blue side of Manchester could be reliant on one Sergio Aguero’s knack of finding the net. My worry? He has an absolutely woeful injury record, and one bad knock could have him out – and with only Bony as a recognisable senior out-and-out striker on the clubs books – they’d be majorly short of options.

But without signing anyone, there has been a breakthrough of young talent at the Etihad this pre-season – and that comes in the form of 18-year-old striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

Iheanacho forged a good understanding with Raheem Sterling whilst on the clubs pre-season tour, which resulted in him scoring two goals and assisting one. He is tipped to be in the squad for Manchester City’s trip to West Brom on Monday, and could even start – it will be interesting to see if any of the pre-season football predictions come off when it all begins.
